6/26/2008 Update on JAVA for RamCT
CSU’s current version of RamCT relies on Java for some functions. To provide the most secure, flexible and reliable use of Java-dependent tools we made some changes.
We now recommend using either Java 6 update 6 (JRE 1.6.0_06) or Java 6 update 3 (JRE 1.6.0_03) on Windows computers.
Both of these versions of Java are secure and work with RamCT. Also note that, in Windows, running a Java update typically does NOT remove older versions of Java from a machine. If an unpatched version of Java is present, even if a new version has been installed, it can still contribute to an exploit. Go to Add/Remove Programs and remove old versions of Java.
Attention CSU INB Banner and RamCT Users
The recent upgrade to CSU's Banner system requires the use of an older version of Java, 1.5x. If you are a Microsoft Windows user who needs to use BOTH INB Banner and RamCT we recommend that you do the following:
- Remove any previous versions of Java on your Windows computer. View Iinstructions on how to uninstall previous versions of Java.
- Install the Java version that is recommended by CSU's Information Systems for INB Banner. This older version will still work with RamCT.
Apple Computers and Java
For Apple computers running Mac OS X, use the most recent version of Java provided by Apple. Under System Preference | System select Software Update. This will check for any updates needed for your computer including any Java updates.
