RamCT Requirements for Campus Computers and Computer Labs

The WebCT upgrade project is underway.  The new version of WebCT will be named RamCT.  Full production of this new system will take place for the Fall 2007 semester.

To help insure RamCT’s success we need campus computers to work well with the new system.  Would you please review your current computer builds and see if they meet the requirements listed below?   Once you have a validated web browser on your systems you can use these steps to “tune” your browser to work properly with RamCT.  Meeting these requirements will allow faculty, staff and students to access RamCT from CSU computers.

Java Challenge

RamCT requires a specific version of Java to work properly. This version is not usually the most recent version being distributed by Sun Micro Systems. Because you cannot have multiple versions of Java on a PC IT administrators will need to decide on which version to load on their machines. Obtain the recommended version of Java.

Some common issues related to non supported versions of Java:

  • Browser freezes when trying to upload files
  • File manager window is very small
  • Chat and whiteboard items cannot be seen

We recognize this versioning issue will be a potential concern and we will continue to work with WebCT on Java concerns.

Demo Course for Testing Computer Settings

We have created a demo course in the new RamCT system that administrators can use to test the settings on computer browsers.

You can log in to a RamCT demo course by going to:
http://ramct.colostate.edu
User name: ramctdemo
Password: ramctdemo

  • Under the “My RamCT” tab will be a course list.
  • Click on the course called RAMCT Technical Demo Course – 001
  • On the left side of the course are the Course Tools.
  • Click on the Syllabus link to see if you can view that document.
  • Click on the Learning Module link and then the Content Module link. Make sure you can access the PowerPoint item under the Content Module.
  • Click on the Announcements link to insure you can read a class announcement.

Node Identification

To identify to which node a user’s RamCT session is connected, while in an open session the following link can be copy and pasted into the browser address field or clicked on:

http://ramct.colostate.edu/webct/applicationframework/clusterinfo.jsp

The node is identified in the first line under “Value”, such as “WebCTManagedNodeB” would be Node B. This information is useful in session issue troubleshooting.
