ACNS Policy for RamCT Backups and Section Lifetimes on the RamCT Production System
- Section Backups
- No section backups will be made or stored by central RamCT administrators.
- It is recommended that designers/instructors make section backups and download them to their own computer or network drives before/after major changes and at the end of each semester.
- Database Backups
- Database backups are made regularly and can be used after a system catastrophe to restore the entire system.
- Database backups cannot be used to restore an individual section.
- Section Lifetimes
- Sections should be readily available, per the System Limit* below, on the Production system to enable instructors to:
- teach in the current semester
- copy contents from previous sections into new sections
- provide extended access to content for some students
- offer the opportunity for students to finish “Incompletes” in the original sections.
- develop content for future sections.
- Central RamCT Administration will do their best to provide resources so that sections may remain available on the Production system for up to two years after the semester concludes. The *SYSTEM LIMIT, how much data can be preserved and the longevity of the data on the Production system, will be determined over time by the growth and size of the database and the costs of additional resources.
- Twice a year a “Keep/Delete” process will provide an opportunity for designers/instructors to request the continuation or deletion of RamCT sections (beginning sometime in 2008). Sections for which there is no “Keep/Delete” decision will remain on the system up to the System Limit.
- Sections will be deleted from the Production system upon designer/instructor request or at the System Limit, whichever comes first.
- Temporary Section Backups
- Section backups that are temporarily stored on the Production System will be deleted weekly (Friday mornings) by RamCT administrators, beginning Jan’08.
