RamCT Section Information
A New Process - Working with RamCT Sections
Moving to RamCT involves changes in the process of how instructors request RamCT sections, enroll students, and reuse content.
New Section Shell Required for Each Semester
Unlike WebCT, RamCT will not be using the same section shell over and over again from semester to semester. Instead, RamCT will require a new section shell for each semester the course is being taught. Instructors will have the option to copy all section content from a previous shell to their new section shell still allowing the flexibility to add and modify content.
ARIES Does It All! No More Manual Enrolling of Students!
One of the biggest advantages of RamCT is direct link to the ARIES student information system. All student enrollments in RamCT will be automatic and in almost real time. Instructors will no longer have to manually keep their student enrollment up to date or synchronized. Add/Drop information is tied to the live integration with ARIES so your enrollment list will update automatically with this new system.
Assign Content To New RamCT Sections
A new feature of RamCT is the ability to copy the content from a previous RamCT course-section into a new semester course-section. As a RamCT Section Designer, the first time you access a new RamCT section, you will be prompted with three options as to how to deal with content. CSU will utilize the first two options: “Set up a blank course” and “Copy content from another course”.
Option 1: “Set up a blank course” allows section designers to start new with no content in the section.
Option 2: “Copy content from another course” allows faculty to select from one of their current RamCT course-section(s) and copy that content into their new RamCT course-section.
Note: Faculty will have an option to keep content on the RamCT server up to two years.
For example, if you teach AB 100 every Fall, you will develop your RamCT section content for Fall 2007. In Fall 2008, you will request a RamCT section. You can then choose to “copy” the content from your Fall 2007 course-section into your Fall 2008 section
Requesting a RamCT Section Shell:
Instructors will still request their RamCT Section using our online course request system. But the courses will be linked to the new ARIES information system. So, your name will need to be associated with your section in the new ARIES information system before we can create a RamCT course section. And, your course name will be taken directly from the course catalog. The RamCT section request web site is expected to be available in Summer 2007.
