WebCT to RamCT – Making the Transition
RamCT is the new version of WebCT, CSU’s online course management system. The campus will move entirely to this new system for the Fall 2007 semester. To insure your success in the Fall, we strongly encourage you to START NOW to become familiar with this new system. RamCT is a completely new product. It takes time to prepare your previous WebCT course content to properly work in RamCT. And it will take time to become comfortable with its new interface and all of its features.
Your Timeline For Best Success:
Feb-Mar 2007 Attend the RamCT Kickoff and one of the Overview sessions
Mar-April 2007 Obtain training on how to use RamCT
Mar-Aug 2007 Check, ‘clean-up’ and improve your migrated WebCT course in RamCT
or develop new course-section content
Note: if you will not be on campus during the summer or will not have Internet access during that time, you should plan on completing preparations on your Fall RamCT course-section(s) by May 2007.

What About My Old WebCT Course?
At the end of the Fall 2006 semester we sent out “keep/delete’ notices to primary designers in WebCT.
For designers who told us to “keep” their current WebCT course(s) a copy of their course has been migrated/moved to the new RamCT system. Instructors will soon be able to access their migrated course in the new RamCT system.
For those instructors who have never used WebCT, you will be able to request a new course-section shell where you can begin to develop Fall 2007 content in RamCT. Additional information on this process will be posted on the help.ramct.colostate.edu website.
Why Do I Have To Act Now?
RamCT is a completely different system. Each instructor will need time to become familiar with the new interface and time to understand RamCT’s new features.
Migrating content from one system to another may have some challenges. We’ve migrated more than 2,000 courses over to the new system. In our tests, most WebCT courses migrated over to RamCT fairly well; only some minor cleanup was required. But, as the instructor, you need to test ALL aspects of your old course in the new system to insure everything is working properly. A complex WebCT course may take a number of hours to test and clean up for use in RamCT. And, if there’s a concern, we would like to address it now so you’re ready to go for Fall.
If you will not be on campus during the Summer or will not have Internet access during that time, you should plan on completing course preparations by May 2007. You’ll then be ready to teach your Fall RamCT course-section.
CTSS has prepared a training class and documentation for checking your migrated WebCT course called “Getting Familiar with Your Migrated Course” that you can use to help insure that your course-section will be ready to go for Fall 2007.
